Mark Millar, the mind behind Wanted and a shit load of other great comics, wants to rewrite what we know of the man of Steel. In an interview with Empire magazine, he writes the following:

Mark Millar wants to create an epic 8-hour screen story which will follow the entire life of Kal-El from his birth on Krypton a thousand years ago, until he is the last being left on Earth.

Empire sat down for a chat with comic book writer and creator Millar, the man behind Wanted and the upcoming Kick-Ass, and he filled us in on his pitch for the follow-up to Superman Returns.

Mark has been working closely with a ‘big-Hollywood action director’ – who he refuses to name at this stage – on a pitch for what he is calling the Magnum Opus of Superman stories. His idea is for an 8-hour saga, split into 3 films to be released a year apart, in a Lord of the Rings fashion. Although several other sources have reported similar conversations with Mark, he went into further detail, fleshing out the story arc a little more.

“It’s gonna be like Michael Corleone in the Godfather films, the entire story from beginning to end, you see where he starts, how he becomes who he becomes, and where that takes him. The Dark Knight showed you can take a comic book property and make a serious film, and I think the studios are ready to listen to bigger ideas now.”

“The problem with Superman Returns was like releasing Star Wars in ’77, The Empire Strikes Back in ’80 and then waiting 28 years to release Return of the Jedi, it wasn’t relevant. I understand what Bryan Singer was trying to do, to pay homage to Richard Donner’s original vision, but I think you should pay homage by doing something completely different.”

“I want to start on Krypton, a thousand years ago, and end with Superman alone on Planet Earth, the last being left on the planet, as the yellow sun turns red and starts to supernova, and he loses his powers."

Certainly no-one can ever say that Millar lacks vision and if he and his ‘big Hollywood action director’ friend get backing for the project, and we certainly hope they do, it might just prove to be the Godfather of superhero films.

I can’t see WB letting this happen but I hope they do. Millar will breathe new life into the series.

Midway has just release the cover of the new Alex Ross penned Mortal Kombat versus DC Universe Kollector’s Edition for Sony Playsation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360 etc. Get to your local video game store and PRE-ORDER.

There will also be a 16 page comic by Kombat creator John Tobias explaining how these two worlds came face to face to party down and beat the shit out of each other. The cover is also, a removable print… so that’s cool as beans in my world.

Do you know who Sandee Westgate is? She’s an ex Playboy model that later went on to pose here, there, all over. She’s got her own website and she does video reviews for Hollywood Tuna. mark_millar Did you hear the latest Superman news? It seems Mark Millar (at left), author of WANTED and many others, but one of my new favs… Red Son (I am currently reading this book) might have a shot at writing the new Superman movies. I think Bryan Singer is the shit but sadly, Warner Brothers doesn’t agree. The last Superman movie didn’t do 1/2 of what they wanted it to do.. so now an unnamed Hollywood Director that is supposed to be one of the bigger guns in Tinsel Town is asking WB if they can do the movie. Mark envisions it as a trilogy, shot back to back ala Lord of the Rings style… telling the story from start to finish. Yes Clint, you’re going to have to sit through yet *another* telling of the classic Kryptonian tale. (moan/gasp/sigh). Order me some fries and a hot dog, I’ll grab the cokes.

It’d be cool if the new Superman movie somehow incorporate Red Son, but that shit will never happen. Red Son details a what if…  what if Clark Kent didn’t crash down in Smallville, Kansas, USA? What if he crash landed in the Ukraine? In Soviet Communist Motherfuckin’ Russia! He’d grow up somewhat different… no? Makes for quite a story.

Mark Millar figures this will introduce a new crowd to Supes and bring a new fan base, doing the trilogy that is… and while I admire his hope for the franchise…. I figure fuck it dude, promo Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe more, that will do it. That game drops in November of this year for PS3 and my ass will be enjoying it greatly, thanks for asking. If you don’t see me blogging for a bit in November, it’s because I be gamin’, foo.

Those of you that have been around this blog much know I love me some comics. I’m not a hard core fan like my buddy Clint, he’s a junkie.. I’m more of the passive… oh wait, it’s cool now to like comics? I LOVE COMICS!  kind of guy. (j/k)

Anyway, I’m a huge Superman fan and as such, it goes without saying I love the tv show Smallville. Yes the acting is questionable at times but a show is only as good as the writers, right? If you’re a Smallville fan, you know who Chloe Sullivan is. She’s Clark Kent’s wingman, up and coming ace reporter at the Daily Planet and also Lois Lane’s cousin.

Well, tonight while watching Big Brother 10 with my girlfriend I noticed a familiar face in the crowd off to the side of RoboChen. Wait a tic… is that Allison Mack on Big Brother 10? Why yes, yes it is. I grabbed some screen grabs but thee are small, so you’ll have to accept my word for it.
